Seventh
All India Bharat Ko Jano Competition was held at Ludhiana (Punjab) on the 5th and 6th
January, 2008. A total of 74 teams (Junior: 36; Senior:
38) from 38 Prants participated which was was the highest
number of participating teams so far. |

Chancellor, Guru Angad Veterinary and Animal Sciences
University and Shri V.K. Goel, Industrialist were the
guests of honour.

This competition is a quiz
programme for the school children to increase their
awareness about the distinctive features of our country and
culture.
Before the Bharat Ko
Jano project was taken at the national level, this had
successfully been implemented U.P. West Prant for a number
of years. In the year 2000, it was decided to conduct this
programme on an experimental basis in all the eight
Prants of U.P. state. Encouraged by its success, it was
decided to adopt it as an all India Project.

From the year 2001-02 this competition is being held at
branch, state and national levels. This programme has
generated great interest among the students. Now
over 10 lakhs students from over 5,500 schools annually
participate in this programme.
During 2006-07,
record one lakh Bharat Ko Jano books were
distributed among the school students for this competition.

NEWS FROM SOME OF THE STATES
J&K: State Level
Competition of BKJ was held on 8th Dec. 07 at Govt. Hr.
Secondary School (Boys) Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Smt Girija Kaw,
Principal of the School was the Chief Guest. Sixteen teams
of 6 branches competed. Jagriti Niketan School, Kachi howni,
Jammu stood First at senior level while Shanti Saroop
Memorial Public School, Jammu stood First in Junior Level.
Jammu West :
Branch organised BKJ quiz competition at Shanti Swaroop
Memorial Jummu public hr. sec. school, Patoli, Jammu on 4th
of Oct. 07. The function was resided over by K. Gupta, Ex.
Secretary Board of Secondary education, The chief guest was
Ms. Kusum Bhatia, Managing Director & Principal of SSJP Hr.
sec. school, Patoli. The quiz was conducted by prof. N.K.
Sehgal, Vice President Jammu State BVP. Ms. Kusum Bhatia,
Chief Guest highly appreciated the different activities
undertaken by Parishad and stressed upon such like
activities to be taken up more vehemently in all the
educational institutions because the youth is more inclined
towards western civilization. Indian ulture and traditions
are very rich of high moral values and should be imparted
among the students. She assured whole hearted support in all
such activities and would provide full co-operation in
future also. Shanti Swaroop Memorial Jammu Public Hr. Sec.
School, Patoli stood first in junior wing and Vimal Public
school, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu in senior wing.
Karnataka (South):
Prant conducted BKJ Competition on 18th November
07. 13 Teams is Junior level and 14 Teams in Senior category
participated. Sister Nivedita School, Bangalore stood first
both in Junior and Senior category.
Delhi (South):
State level competition was held on 19-11-07 at Columbia
Foundation Senior Secondary School, Vikaspuri, New Delhi, in
which 16 schools participated. Columbia Foundation Sr. Sec.
School, stood 1st both in junior and senior categories. Shri
D.N. Grover, National Secretary (Vanvasi Sahayata Yojana)
was the Chief Guest presided over Shri R.C. Puri, president
Delhi State (South).
Maharashtra-I :
Organized inter branch BKJ quiz competition on 2nd December
2007 at GCC Air Conditioned Hall at Bhayander, Mumbai. Seven
teams in junior category and eight teams in Senior category
participated in this quiz competition. Teams from St. Mary
High School, Malad representing Malad West branch were
winners in both Junior and Senior catagories. Shri
R.P.Sharma, National Working President graced the occasion
as Chief guest. Shri Om Prakash Gadodia, Corporater, Shri
Stephen Mendoncea- Deputy Mayor of Mira- Bhayander Nagar
Palika, Mr. Narendra Mehta and Dr. Niranjan Agarwal were
guests of Honour.
Maharashtra -II :
State level "Bharat Ko Jano" competition was held on 16th
Dec. 07 at Pune. New English School, Satara stood Ist in
Junior Group and Maharani Laxmibai Military Training School
for girls got Ist prize in senior group. Hon. Jan Sadaviji (guruma)
handed over the Memento and prizes.
A.P. (North & East)
: Conducted Bharat Ko Jano, State level quiz
competitions at Tuni on 8-12-07 Sri K.B. Rama Rao, Zonal
Organising Secretary inaugurated the competitions. K.J.A.
High School, Anakapalli stood first in Juniors and Aditya
Public School, Kakinada stood first in seniors. Sri
Yendamoori Veerendranath, India's famous psychologist was
the guest of honour. Sri M.V. Gopal Krishna, Assistant
Director gave away the prizes. Tuni Branch hosted the
competition.
Vivekananda Shakha (A.P.West)
: Branch conducted BKJ written test in 7 schools on
December 10th 2007. 9 senior teams. & 8 Junior teams from 7
schools paticipated. St. Alphamas high School, Maruthi Nagar
stood first in Senior wing. Dr. S.Rama Krishan Garu Rtd
Director of Geological Survey of India, was the Chief Guest.
