OLD AGE : CURSE OR BOON
It is quite common that man after attaining 60 years of age retires from active life. Gradually he begins to feel lonely and insecure which in fact is not necessary. He gets tired. Some sort of fear looms large on him that he is ignored by his own family; that he is loosing his authority over the family; that none in the family cares for him. As a consequence he becomes weak. Slowly one after another his organs lose strength. Poor fellow begins to think “old age is a curse ......” How to overcome this ? Is there a solution ?
“Old in age young in spirits”.
To become a senior, you need not put special efforts. By virtue
of age, any body can attain seniority. Seniority by itself cannot make life
meaningful. It is the maturity that makes life meaningful. Higher thinking and
simple living is the pre-requisite for maturity.
I am not just an individual; but an indivisible part of the whole society. It is
the society that has developed my personality. So it should become my natural
duty to serve the society. Service is not Upkar but just an expression of
gratitude. Those who try hard to translate this high thinking into action attain
maturity.
For matured souls oldness is never a curse. It is an important period of their life when they start giving what they had earned till then. Therefore by serving the society as much as they can these souls make their lives meaningful. By living a meaningful life certainly one becomes venerable in the eyes of the society.
BVP is a powerful platform for the seniors to attain maturity. BVP transforms seniority into maturity thereby making life meaningful. In BVP we find a large number of matured men & women for whom old age has been a boon. They are never tired; never feel insecure; no fear complex; never suffer from loneliness. Instead they have become assets for BVP in the cause of serving the country.
During my countrywide tour I have seen good number of branches whose all the members are senior citizens. But they are vigorous & vibrant engaged in unique service activities. I salute all these matured senior members living a meaningful life. BVP calls upon the senior citizens to join BVP, engage themselves in BVP activities and take an opportunity to make life meaningful.
