Bharat Vikas Parishad has taken up this project at national
level. Simple mass marriages of poor young girls and boys
are performed by many branches and Prants regularly.
The scriptures prescribe 16
sanskaras for the Hindus and marriage is one of the most
important sanskar. With the increasing dowry demand and
ostentatious style of marriage celebrations, the daughter's
marriage has become a heavy burden for parents of moderate
means. Parishad organises marriages in the case of
needy families collectively. Sometimes hundreds of brides and
bridegrooms participate in one celebration. There is a combined
feast and essential house hold items, clothes, etc. are donated.
