Tribal Welfare Programme

 How to make Donations?

 Donations for Vanvasi Sahayata

Bharat Vikas Parishad took up Vanvasi Sahayata Yojana in 1992 for the welfare and uplift of the Vanvasis (tribal people) of the country in general and North Eastern states in particular.

Vanvasi Bandu performing their traditional dance

India has a population of over 8 crores Vanvasis living in over 1.40 lakh villages. Out of this, 27% of the Vanvasi people live in the North-East in extremely harsh conditions. These people have to contend with widespread insurgency, unemployment, militant activity, ethnic clashes, illegal influx of Bangladeshis and recurring floods.

Why Vanvasis need help?

  • Population over           8 crores

  • Spread over                1, 43, 358 villages

  • Living in dismal conditions

  • Victims of various ailments and ignorance due to lack of education and medical aid

  • Subsist in dense forests, hilly tracts and remote areas in tiny jhuggi clusters.

  • Surviving on produce of forests & agriculturel Simple, hard working people with high morals

  • 2 crore Vanvasis displaced with the development work all over India (factories, dams etc), hardly 25% resettled.

The financial assistance provided for the above projects/ programmes in the North Eastern States has been of the order of Rs. 5 to 20 lakhs annually during the years 1992 to 2000.  In the following years, we have been able to step up our contribution.

During the year 2015-16, Prants contributed Rs. 5.72 lakh for projects in North Eastern states, out of which Central Office disbursed Rs. 0.57 lakh. In addition, non-North Eastern prants spent a sum of Rs. 85.19 lakh for projects in their own tribal areas. Thus the total expenditure on Vanvasi Sahayata Project amounted to Rs. 85.76 lakh.
