India has a population of
over 8 crores Vanvasis living in over 1.40 lakh villages. Out of
this, 27% of the Vanvasi people live in the North-East in
extremely harsh conditions. These people have to contend with
widespread insurgency, unemployment, militant activity, ethnic
clashes, illegal influx of Bangladeshis and recurring floods.
The Parishad has taken up a
number of projects and programmes for their welfare. In
addition, the Parishad is providing financial assistance through
its state units to such other voluntary organisations, which are
already running welfare projects for the Vanvasi.
